“The 3rd CHANGBAISHAN INTERNATIONAL ICE AND SNOW SCULPTURE COMPETITION”
Creative Intelligence leads the Italian team at the Changbai Shan International Ice and Snow Sculpture Competition .
A snow sculpture of the trulli of Alberobello , a world heritage site, and the Colosseum of Rome , one of the 7 wonders of the world, represented Italy in the Far East, on the border between China and North Korea, on the occasion of the third edition of the Changbai Shan International Ice and Snow sculpture competition, which took place from January 13th to 21st. Coordinated by the Creative Intelligence communication agency of Bari, specialized in international marketing activities (several events were organized in the Arab Emirates and in China itself), the Italian team is one of the 30 teams that, defying prohibitive temperatures and fearsome opponents, participated to the international competition dedicated to ice and snow sculptures, which involved China, USA, Russia, Japan, Korea, Canada, Taiwan, Hongkong, Singapore, Mongolia, Finland and, obviously, Italy.
The Italian group, led by a Lucanian chef, Nicola De Luca, is mostly from Puglia and has created two works, two large sculptures of the trulli and the Colosseum, in snow and ice, bringing creativity and warmth of Puglia and the south. The Bari-based Creative Intelligence project, developed by the group's business unit - Creative Academy , was joined by, among others, the Confartigianato of Alberobello , the business network of the province of Bari, Piazza Mercantile , and some private sponsors. Among the partners there is also the Angi of Turin, the Italian-Chinese youth association .
EXPERIENCE

WELCOME TO CHANGBAI MOUNTAIN
in northeast China

Changbaishan Mountain is located on the edge of Siberia and near North Korea; it is one of the coldest places in China (temperatures in winter can reach -35°C). An extinct volcano, characterized by rich fauna and beautiful lakes, wonderful hot springs and extensive forests that stretch to the horizon.
Each season is characterized by unforgettable scenery, particularly in the winter months.
The most beautiful tourist attraction of Changbai Mountain is undoubtedly Heavenly Lake, located at an altitude of 2,189m.
COMPETITION

SNOW AND ICE SCULPTURES
30 teams from 11 countries to create snow masterpieces and ice sculptures

Participants from all over the world created extraordinary snow sculptures; these sculptures were illuminated at night, to create an incredible fairy-tale atmosphere.
An interactive exhibition made up of magnificent ice sculptures, buildings and statues entirely made of ice; an exhibition that was open to the public during the festival.
The “TRULLO”
Our SNOW SCULPTURE
we created a "Trullo", a particular, small, dry stone building, with a conical roof and a hand-made pinnacle placed on the top of the roof.
This style of construction is typical of Alberobello, a city located in Puglia, a region in Southern Italy. Today the surviving trulli are a tourist attraction and are recognized by UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, as a world heritage site.

The Colosseum"
Our ICE SCULPTURE
The Colosseum is one of the 7 wonders of the world; it is the most important symbol of Italian history, and it was the perfect project for our first participation in the event in Changbaishan.

Below is the article "Arte Fredda" published on 18 March 2017 in the weekly Sportweek, attached to the Gazzetta dello Sport:
Starting from Puglia towards north-eastern China , not far from North Korea and Siberia , to take part in a snow and ice sculpture competition. It is the singular trip made in January by Nicola De Luca , Andrea Veneziano and Claudio Neri, invited to participate, together with 29 other teams from 11 nations, in the third edition of the Changbaishan International Ice and Snow Sculpture Competition . The venue of the event is Mount Changbaishan in the Jilin district, "which for the Chinese is a very renowned location, a bit like our Cortina d'Ampezzo", says Veneziano, "We found temperatures between -18 and -20 degrees, with peaks of -26, ideal for this initiative. Thus the creations were preserved until the Chinese New Year . "Each team had a 2x2x0.7 meter slab available for three days for the ice sculptures and as much time to work a three meter snow cube. The Italian team led by "captain" De Luca, a great expert in winter sculptures, created an ice Colosseum and a snow Trullo . To shape it, they used a chainsaw and stonecutters usually used by those who sculpt marble. The Mongolian team won the ice test, while the Dutch prevailed in the snow. Things from the other world.
